Painful Ankle

Ankle pain is a common issue that can result from various causes. The ankle plays a crucial role in movement and is subjected to various forces during activities such as walking, running, and jumping. Ankle pain can manifest in different ways, such as when standing up, climbing stairs, squatting, or during and after sports activities like running or football. Athletes, in particular, often experience ankle issues due to improper or excessive strain. Additionally, osteoarthritis, a degenerative condition of the cartilage in the ankle, can contribute to painful discomfort in this joint.

What Kind of injuries Does a Painful Ankle Cause?

Ankle pain can present in various forms, ranging from sharp pain to swelling and stiffness. The pain may occur on the front, back, inside, or outside of the ankle and can be either acute or chronic. In some cases, the ankle may swell and turn blue, while others experience ankle pain without visible swelling. Common injuries include pain while walking or during daily activities, as well as pain during or after sports. In some instances, the ankle may feel unstable, increasing the risk of sprains and further injuries.

What Causes a Painful Ankle?

Ankle pain can arise from various causes. One of the most common causes is a sprain or strain of the ankle ligaments, often resulting from an ankle twist. Fractures of the ankle bones, such as the tibia or fibula, can also cause severe pain. Overuse from repetitive movements, such as in intensive sports activities, can lead to discomfort. Other possible causes include osteoarthritis, where the cartilage in the ankle wears down, and tendinitis, an inflammation of the tendons around the ankle. Neurological conditions, such as nerve compression, and rheumatic conditions, such as arthritis, can also contribute to ankle pain.

What is Our Treatment for a Painful Ankle?

For ankle pain, we analyze the gait pattern and use ultrasound to assess bone quality and detect joint swelling. Based on these findings, we determine whether insole therapy or additional treatment is necessary.
